Child, Adolescent, and Adult Trauma

Presented by Institute on Violence, Abuse, and
Trauma at Alliant University

Conference Objectives: Learn the current state-of-the-science research and practice concerning child, adolescent and adult trauma and maltreatment.  Understand the dynamics and overlap of different types of trauma and maltreatment, and the effects on children, adolescents and adults.  Understand the effects of early trauma on the long-term functioning of children, adolescents and adults.  Improve skills and learn new techniques for helping children, adolescents, adults and families recover from various types of trauma and maltreatment. Increase understanding of the issues and strategies for preventing abuse and neglect.

Dr. Baladerian will make two presentations: (1) Forensic Interviewing of Suspected Child Abuse Victims with Cognitive/Communication Disabilities; and (2) Preventing Compassion Fatigue & Reducing Vicarious Trauma.

First Responder Training Program

This 8-hour training will include the following topics: how to interview children with disabilities, current laws on abuse of children with disabilities, officer safety considerations, how to build good cases, how to work with interpreters, and multi-disciplinary team skills.  The training is designed for law enforcement officers, child protective service workers, paramedics, firefighters, and emergency room nurses and physicians.
